About Charli
Charli Clement (they/them) is an award-winning writer, speaker & creative discussing identity and systemic issues, often in the context of arts & culture. As a disabled, neurodivergent & queer person, Charli is particularly interested in creating safe spaces and educating people through a mix of lived & living experience, humour, and making academic research accessible.
Charli delivers engaging and tailored training and talks with clients across a variety of sectors including Activision Blizzard, Young Minds, VISA, and Scope, and Brass Bands England. They particularly enjoy hosting events and panels, and are a regular chair and panellist for Cheltenham Festivals, as well as recently guest curating as a Young Changemaker. Elsewhere, they have opinion & feature bylines in outlets including the Metro, Independent, Digital Spy, The Lead and The i on topics including media representation, human rights, legislative reform, and identity.
After receiving their autism diagnosis during a traumatic admission to a psychiatric unit as a teenager, Charli is often found discussing the psychiatric system and has spent the past five years working in the NHS & third sector organisations on improving care and human rights for autistic people. In 2023, they were named on the MHP 30 To Watch: Politics list as a Health Champion.
Their first book, All Tangled Up in Autism & Chronic Illness, a guide to life as an autistic and chronically ill person, was published in December 2023.
